We are a small editorial team that would rather write about cleaning than do it. That makes us unusually motivated to find shortcuts. How the effort ladder works
Every product and method is placed on a five-rung scale, from Effort 0 (zero-touch, such as a robot vacuum with a self-emptying dock) to Effort 4 (a small, timed amount of manual work). We judge by what you actually have to do each week, not by what the box promises. When two options clean equally well, the one that needs less of you ranks higher.
What we promise
- We tell you what a product can't do as clearly as what it can.
- We do not accept payment to rank a product higher.
- We flag safety issues, such as never mixing bleach with ammonia or acids.
- We are independent and not affiliated with any brand mentioned on the site. Brand names belong to their owners.
What we are not
We are not cleaning professionals, and this site is general information, not medical or safety advice. For specialist jobs, mould, biohazards or delicate antiques, call someone qualified. For everything else, we are here to help you do less.
